Bank Holidays Next Week (September 1–7, 2025): Check State-Wise List
Ritik September 3, 2025 0Bank States Where Banks Will Remain Shut
The first week of September 2025 will bring a string of regional holidays, and banks in several states will remain closed on select days. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) official holiday calendar, customers should be aware of these upcoming closures and plan their branch visits accordingly.
Unlike national holidays where banks across India shut down, these closures are tied to state-specific festivals and observances. While physical branches will remain closed, online services and ATMs will continue to function as usual.
State-Wise Bank Holiday List (September 1–7, 2025)
September 3 (Wednesday): Banks will be closed in Jharkhand on account of Karma Puja, a festival celebrated with great enthusiasm in the state.
September 4 (Thursday): Banks in Kerala will remain shut for the First Onam Festival, marking the beginning of the state’s grand harvest celebration.
September 5 (Friday): A major closure is expected on this day. Banks will remain shut across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Manipur, Jammu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, New Delhi, Jharkhand, and Srinagar for Id-E-Milad and Thiruvonam.
September 6 (Saturday): In Sikkim and Chhattisgarh, banks will remain closed for Id-e-Milad (Milad-Un-Nabi) and Indrajatra.
September 7 (Sunday): A nationwide closure will take place as banks across the country observe the weekly Sunday holiday.
RBI’s Holiday Rules
It’s worth remembering that the RBI mandates the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of each month as working days for banks, while Sundays are fixed holidays. Therefore, branch-level closures during September 1–7 will be specific to regional festivals, not nationwide apart from Sunday.
❓ What Can You Do If Banks Are Closed?
Here’s the good news: bank closures don’t stop you from handling your money. Even when branches are locked, digital banking channels keep working round the clock.
Mobile and Internet Banking: Customers can carry out almost all services—fund transfers, bill payments, balance checks, and more—via apps and net banking.
UPI & Wallets: Transactions on UPI-based apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm are unaffected.
ATMs: Cash withdrawals, deposits, and other services are available at ATMs, though long holidays may occasionally cause cash shortages.
Rural Access: Banking correspondents and micro-ATMs in villages provide basic services even on holidays.
👉 Answer in short: While banks may be closed physically, you can still use UPI, net banking, and ATMs without disruption.
The Takeaway
Between September 1 and September 7, 2025, customers in different states will experience regional bank holidays due to Karma Puja, Onam, Id-E-Milad, Thiruvonam, and Indrajatra. The heaviest impact will be on September 5, when multiple states observe closures.
If you need to visit a branch, it’s best to plan in advance. For everything else, India’s robust digital banking system ensures uninterrupted transactions even when physical counters are closed.
